Wilson Bio Chemical Ltd is proud to announce that our trailblazing circular economy project in accelerating the development and scale up of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using aerospace industry derived waste as the fuel feedstock has been acknowledged by the judging panel of a top engineering awards for Midlands and East of England manufacturers.

Our Waste-to-Wings SAF project was recognised at the Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2021 on 13 October where the winners and runners up were celebrated, with Wilson Bio-Chemical picking up the runners up award in the much-coveted sustainability and energy category.

Our shortlisted entry focussed on using a circular economy framework as a unique process method to make bio-renewable jet fuel, diverting waste from landfills or incineration, and converting it into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), thus providing a unique and genuine solution to environmental air transport issues.

The Make UK Manufacturing Awards celebrate the outstanding people, teams, and collaborative projects from the worlds of manufacturing, sustainability, and engineering innovation. A wide range of themes are recognised by the awards including business performance, future of manufacturing, net zero, inclusive employers, emerging professionals, and apprentices.

The winners and runners up for the Midlands and East of England region were announced at an awards dinner on Wednesday 13 October, where manufacturing peers, engineers, business leaders and VIP guests gathered at The Slate conference centre at the University of Warwick in Coventry to celebrate the best practices and innovation applied across the region’s landmark engineering projects.

Wilson Bio Chemical were joined on our table by industry stakeholders who showed their support for our SAF project and were delighted with its progress and success. Andrew Mair, Chief Executive of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, said “The aviation industry is committed to an industry-wide plan to reach net zero CO2 emissions including carbon-neutral growth and we’re delighted to provide support for Wilson Bio-Chemical’s landmark project which demonstrates why the Midlands is such a great region for developing innovative solutions to global aerospace challenges.”

Wilson Bio Chemical would like to congratulate all the finalists, runners up and winners, we really enjoyed the formal, yet relaxed evening of networking with like-minded engineers and we now look forward to further success at next month’s global energy institute awards ceremony on Thursday 25 November 2021.
